Big League Tours travel season in 31 photos- Midwest and HoF Tours

Posted by Kayla Wininger on Thu, Sep 27, 2012 @ 04:08 PM

Since joining the Big League Tours crew in early summer, I've had the amazing opportunity to lead two tours. The first time I was the co-pilot with Martha Ellen in Chicago/Milwaukee and the second I was flying solo with the group in New York, Boston and Cooperstown.

As the 2012 MLB season wraps up, I thought this would be a great time to share some of my favorite pictures from the trips this summer (I also threw in a few from the corporate outing we hosted). My iPhone is my best friend and I love snapping shots of absolutely anything and everything! FYI- My iPhone is far from professional so ignore some of the blurry stuff and just imagine the great times everyone was having!

Join me while I recount the amazing people I've met and wonderful places I've been thanks to Big League Tours.

There will be plenty of photos to come next year so stay tuned, hopefully your face will even be featured in a few! Sign up for our 2013 Tours and be the first to recieve the schedule once it's released!

My Big League Tours Welcome!

Posted by Kayla Wininger on Mon, Aug 13, 2012 @ 09:56 AM

When I joined the Big League Tours crew in May, I kept wondering if I’d get the chance to join the group on the road or if Glenn and Doug would keep me locked up staring at a computer for eight hours every day. Luckily, a few weeks in, they finally decided they liked me enough to assist Martha Ellen for part of the Midwest Tour. I’m an Indiana girl but I’ve gained a few friends throughout the past four years of college so I was thrilled for a little work and a little play in the Windy City.

Being a tour guide may be classified as work, but let’s be serious, is attending baseball games and staying in luxury hotels really a job? Anyway, at the beginning of my adventure I felt like others thought I was just the daughter of someone on the tour instead of the person leading the tour! I guess that’s what happens when you’re fresh out of college?

Back to baseball…  I’ll admit it, I’m pretty much a newbie to the whole baseball world and Wrigley Field was only my second MLB stadium so I was thrilled to see that Wrigleyville had the same atmosphere as the area around Fenway Park. Lots of baseball loving, beer drinking fans that are sure to enhance your experience!

Wrigley Field

For me, the atmosphere makes your experience and both Wrigley, Miller Park and US Cellular all managed to impress me. From the people at Wrigley, to the craft beers and spending the day with Ron Kittle at Miller Park in addition to the fireworks at US Cellular, they all provided me with great memories of my first trip with Big League Tours.

Of course there’s more to it than just the baseball, the people travelling with us were one of a kind and by the end of the trip I felt like I’d gained a second family. One of the best memories was celebrating an 87th birthday with Walt, our favorite grandpa that everyone wanted to steal by the end of our trip. The more the merrier was definitely a true statement with the group of 20 that joined us. Check back in October for our 2013 Baseball Tours schedule to see when we'll be hosting the Midwest Tour again!

Thanks every for making my first trip a true success!

Ron Kittle Joins Big League Tours at US Cellular Field

Posted by Glenn Dunlap on Thu, Feb 16, 2012 @ 01:21 PM

Ron Kittle- Ron was best known for his homerun power at the plate. He hit seven rooftop homeruns while playing for the White Sox! From 1982 through 1991, he played for the Chicago White Sox (1982-86, 1989, 1991), New York Yankees (1986-87), Cleveland Indians (1988) and Baltimore Orioles (1990). But, right from the start, his career was anything but easy.

“In 1976 I signed with the L.A. Dodgers at a tryout camp in La Porte, IN at Ken Schreiber Field. I arrived at Vero Beach, Florida for my first spring training and then went on to the Midwest League where in my first official game and first at bat, I hit a double and then scored on a single. After sliding across home plate, a late throw came in and the catcher landed on my neck as I was getting up. I crushed 3 vertebrae and broke my neck…this was the beginning of an injury plagued career.” (Taken from Ron's website, RonKittle.com.)

Ron Kittle at US Cellular Field with Big League Tours guestsAfter recovering from the neck injury and working in the steel mills in Indiana, Ron was able to overcome amazing odds to return to baseball. He ultimately was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1983 and had a very productive 10 year career.

Ron's appearance with Big League Tours coincides with two of our baseball trips, the Midwest Tour 1 and the Chicago/Milwaukee Tour. Take a look at those tours and sign up now to see some great baseball, fun stadiums, and to meet slugger Ron Kittle at US Cellular Field prior to the White Sox game on July 3rd against the Rangers.

About the Big League Player Experiences - Get inside the game like never before when you meet up with Big League ballplayers on each of our baseball road trips. Players like Vida Blue, Bill Lee, Dave Parker and Tom Browning have joined us on our tours. Join us on a Big League Tours and you'll see what our guests tell us is the favorite part of their experience. See more about the Player Experiences.

Join Us on the Midwest Tour 1 or Chicago/Milwaukee Baseball Tour

Posted by Glenn Dunlap on Tue, Jan 17, 2012 @ 09:45 PM

We have had a great response to all of our 2012 baseball vacation packages. In particular, our Chicago/Milwaukee and Midwest Tour 1 packages are filling up fast. Outside Wrigley FieldAs you probably understand, our tours aren’t like other baseball tours. We provide lower level seats, first class hotels, sensible itineraries, and an MLB player experience. In order to do all those things, we have to keep our groups small. If you are interested in joining us on any of our 2012 tours (especially the Midwest 1 or Chicago/Milwaukee), please book early, so you don’t miss out.

Our Midwest Tour 1 will start in Minneapolis with the Twins hosting the Royals at Target Field. The next day, our guests will fly to Chicago where they will settle into our downtown hotel for 4 nights. (We’re not cramming a bus full and driving 7+ hours like other tours might.) From there, we’ll head out to Wrigley Field for a Cubs game. Then take a trip to Milwaukee’s Miller Park to see the Brewers the next day returning to Chicago after the game. And, on our last Chicago day, visit US Cellular Field to catch the White Sox. The next morning we’ll fly to St. Louis for a game on July 4 at Busch Stadium and spend the evening in the Gateway City.

The shorter version of the Midwest Tour 1 is the Chicago/Milwaukee Tour. Our guests will come into Chicago on June 30 and stay for 4 nights. While there, they will join up with our Midwest Tour 1 group and visit Wrigley Field, Miller Park and US Cellular Field.

Let us know if you would like to book either of these tours. Or, you can click this link to reserve your spot: Purchase a Big League Tour
