June 12, 2011 - Our group arrived in Philadelphia on Friday from their respective homes to start the longest of our MLB tours for the season, our East Coast Tour. This is the granddaddy of all trips with games in Philly, Baltimore, DC, both teams New York, and Boston. We'll also have a free day in DC to explore the nation's capitol and we'll make a trek to the birthplace of baseball, Cooperstown, New York.
A few of our guests arrived early enough to take in the game on Friday night (because six games in 8 days isn't quite enough!!). So we shuffled out of our downtown Philadelphia hotel to Citizens Bank Park to see the Phillies host the Cubs.
The game seemed like the Phillies were going to runaway with it quite easily, especially after Placido Polanco hit a grand slam to make the score 7-0 and light up the liberty bell in center field.
But the Cubs made the game interesting by scoring five runs in the seventh and giving the Phillies fans reason to get even roudier. Ultimately the Phillies held on for the win. (Box score and wrap up here.)

May 24, 2011 - Here's a great story that appeared May 23rd on OregonLive.com. The story caught my attention for a couple of reasons. First, the story begins when a group of Red Sox fans are at AT&T Park last June. They were there to see the Giants host the Red Sox in interleague play. The significance is that one of our small group tours hosted by Big League Tours in 2010 was at two of the three games of that series.
Second, this story, while it takes a dramatically unexpected turn, is about the love of baseball that runs generations deep in families and friends. It's a love for the game that drove me to start Big League Tours in 2006, a love that was instilled in me by my dad and grandpa. A love that I've been instilling in my kids. And a love that I see demonstrated by the many different guests that we meet on the baseball road trips that we offer each season.
I often tell people that it hit me one day that I wasn't going to have my dad with me forever and that my son wasn't going to think I was "cool" for much longer. So the dream that we shared of seeing all the Major League parks together had a window on it that wouldn't stay open for long.

April 23, 2011 - While we're only 20 games into the 2011 season, we're seeing the Reds and Brewers atop the National League Central Division as predicted. Much can happen over the next 140 games, but we're counting on the race between the Reds and Brewers to remain strong and have some meaning late into the season.
Why? Because we have a great baseball tour planned in September for both Brewers and Reds fans. It's our Oktoberfest trip that will run from September 16th-18th. We'll be loading the busses in Milwaukee and making stops in Chicago and Indianapolis to pick up fans from both teams and fans of German brats and beer.

April 9, 2011 - You've gotta love Opening Day/Night at any baseball stadium. It's a time to celebrate the franchise's past, especially its most recent accomplishments. It's the start of a new baseball season and signifies new beginnings and opportunities for players, fans and teams. And the atmosphere is electric as fans are so happy to be attending the first game of baseball in their home town.
Last night was no different in Atlanta. The ceremonies included the unveiling of their 2010 Pennant in center field for clinching a wild card playoff berth. It also featured former skipper, Bobby Cox, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch to his successor, Fredi Gonzalez. Ol' number six got a huge (and very fitting) ovation at Turner Field when he was announced and walked onto the mound.
We also witnessed a piece of history. Chipper joins lined a base hit to left field for his 2,500th hit of his career. That was great to see for a player who has been around so long, made huge contributions, and has meant so much to this team. Here's a photo of the historic hit taken from our seats. March 26, 2011 - Alright. I'll admit it. There's a great deal of baseball nerd in me. I can't help it though. It's just something that I love. I realized my nerdiness was being fed when I was watching the MLB network and they were showing live shots from centerfield at various baseball stadiums across the majors.
I'm sure that part of my interest is that I'm really sick of cold weather. And seeing grounds crews at work on the fields is a pretty good indication that spring is here.
But the biggest part has to be that I'm really excited for our baseball road trips we have planned for the new season! It's one thing to see the stadiums being prepared as you watch on tv. It's something much greater to walk through the gates and see the brilliant colors of the grass, the stands, and the signs throughout the ballparks. For true baseball fans on tour vacations, this is one of the things we enjoy the most.
So to all my fellow baseball nerds, we're getting close!! See you at the ballpark soon!!
January 28, 2011 - Pitchers and catchers can report to Spring Training in a little over two weeks which means that it won't be long until we have Major League Baseball! That also means that it's almost time for MLB road trips!
