Ray Knight to join our Baseball Tours of EC and Beltway

Posted by Doug Lawson on Mon, Apr 15, 2013 @ 03:57 PM

Ray Knight 1986 WS MVPWe are thrilled to announce that 1986 World Series MVP Ray Knight will be joining us on our East Coast and Atlantic Beltway Tours as the Big League Tours Player Experience.  Ray played in 13 MLB seasons including 3 with the NY Mets where he won the World Series.  (Who could forget Ray's famous romp home when Bill Buckner made the error at first that allowed him to score in Game 6?)   Ray was an NL All Star in 1980 and 1982, and served as the Reds manager over the 1996-97 seasons.  This year is Ray’s sixth season as co-host of Nats Xtra on the Washington Nationals TV network.  Ray will join us before the Nationals game on June 25.  We can’t wait to meet him and hear about his playing days, as well as, his insights on the game today.

Limited space is available on the East Coast and Atlantic Beltway Tours.  Please let us know right away if you are interested in purchasing one of these tours.  Here are the links to the tour webpages:

The 3 most FAQ's about our Luxury Baseball Tours

Posted by Doug Lawson on Wed, Feb 13, 2013 @ 03:28 PM

We are looking forward to a great 2013 baseball tour season.  Pitchers and catchers for all

BLT at Fenwaythe MLB teams are reporting to camp this week, with position players soon to follow.  Opening Day is just around the corner, and our tour groups will start traveling the US enjoying the great game we all love.  As interest builds in the MLB season, and our baseball tours, I thought I would take the opportunity to answer the 3 most frequently asked questions about Big League Tours.  Here they are:

  1. Is transportation to/from the tour included?  No, it isn't.  Our guests come from all over the country, so it's not possible for us to project those costs.  But, we are happy to help you book your travel to/from the tour as an additional, no-cost service.  Just give us a call and we will help find the best travel deal for you.

  2. What about rainouts?  Unfortunately, we can't predict the weather, but you might be interested to know that in all the years Big League Tours has been in business, we have only experienced 2 rainouts.  In the event that a game is rained out, you will receive a rain check from the home team like all the other fans at the game.

  3. When will I get my travel packet?  For those guests that have booked our tours, we mail a packet that has all the final tour information around 3-4 weeks before the first day of the tour.  In that packet will be detailed times, hotel info, Big League Tours Player Experience info, tour transportation info etc.  We also send updates to our guests via email to keep everyone informed.

We hope you will join us on a luxury baseball tour this season.  Here's a link to our 2013 Tours:

Baseball Road Trips Soon Coming to an End

Posted by Glenn Dunlap on Sat, Oct 20, 2012 @ 12:48 PM

The World Series is set to start next Wednesday. And while it's a great time to watch the best in baseball play for the title, it's also bittersweet as it also signals the end of the baseball season and baseball tours. I recently ran across this quote from former Commissioner of Baseball, Bart Giamatti, that I believe sums it up very well.

Baseball trips,road trips,baseball vacation packages

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blooms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fallalone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops."

So for now, we'll soak in the last that baseball has to offer for 2012 and we'll look forward to where our 2013 baseball trips will take us!

Late Season Baseball Tour Perfect for This Reds Fan

Posted by Christy Millikan on Wed, Aug 22, 2012 @ 07:30 AM

PNC Park by the riverDo you by chance remember hearing the news that MVP Joey Votto was on the DL? Perhaps youare a fan of another NL Central team and you cheered on your chances, but I for one sat devastated and hoped he wouldn’t be gone long. My confession: I thought I could kiss post-season play goodbye all because my favorite first baseman was out of the lineup.

Joey’s teammates, however, thought otherwise. Over the past several weeks I’ve gleefully watched my team step up to the plate by making amazing double plays, hitting back-to-back single and two-run homers and have even watched a few heart attack comeback victories. What an amazing and flat out fun team to watch right now! Make no mistake, Votto is a great asset to the Cincinnati Reds baseball organization, and thankfully he will be back. My advice Joey, don’t rush it! Get yourself healthy. Your team has things under control! Have you seen Todd Frazier and Zach Cozart?! Have you glanced at the MLB Standings? The Reds are seven games up on the second place Pirates. SEVEN!

How exciting to be attending the Reds Road Trip to Pittsburgh and see this great matchup at PNC Park on September 29th and 30th! If you haven’t already booked your tour, do it today!

My Big League Tours Welcome!

Posted by Kayla Wininger on Mon, Aug 13, 2012 @ 09:56 AM

When I joined the Big League Tours crew in May, I kept wondering if I’d get the chance to join the group on the road or if Glenn and Doug would keep me locked up staring at a computer for eight hours every day. Luckily, a few weeks in, they finally decided they liked me enough to assist Martha Ellen for part of the Midwest Tour. I’m an Indiana girl but I’ve gained a few friends throughout the past four years of college so I was thrilled for a little work and a little play in the Windy City.

Being a tour guide may be classified as work, but let’s be serious, is attending baseball games and staying in luxury hotels really a job? Anyway, at the beginning of my adventure I felt like others thought I was just the daughter of someone on the tour instead of the person leading the tour! I guess that’s what happens when you’re fresh out of college?

Back to baseball…  I’ll admit it, I’m pretty much a newbie to the whole baseball world and Wrigley Field was only my second MLB stadium so I was thrilled to see that Wrigleyville had the same atmosphere as the area around Fenway Park. Lots of baseball loving, beer drinking fans that are sure to enhance your experience!

Wrigley Field

For me, the atmosphere makes your experience and both Wrigley, Miller Park and US Cellular all managed to impress me. From the people at Wrigley, to the craft beers and spending the day with Ron Kittle at Miller Park in addition to the fireworks at US Cellular, they all provided me with great memories of my first trip with Big League Tours.

Of course there’s more to it than just the baseball, the people travelling with us were one of a kind and by the end of the trip I felt like I’d gained a second family. One of the best memories was celebrating an 87th birthday with Walt, our favorite grandpa that everyone wanted to steal by the end of our trip. The more the merrier was definitely a true statement with the group of 20 that joined us. Check back in October for our 2013 Baseball Tours schedule to see when we'll be hosting the Midwest Tour again!

Thanks every for making my first trip a true success!
