Posted by Doug Lawson on Fri, Dec 16, 2011 @ 02:10 PM

Book before Dec. 23 to get your extra hotel night

Folks have been booking early to take advantage of our free hotel night promotion.  For example, we've had travelers from the West Coast select to arrive a day before their Midwest 2 Tour begins so they won't be rushed after their cross country flight. We've also had a family choose the early arrival option on their Chicago/Milwaukee so they can have a day to check out the sites in Chicago.  The promotion ends Dec. 23.  Call or email us with any questions.

2012 MLB Schedules Have Been Released

Posted by Big League Tours on Wed, Nov 23, 2011 @ 03:45 PM
September 16, 2011 -  It might be hard to believe, but it's time to begin making plans for the summer of 2012. With the release of the MLB team schedules for next season, we've begun the planning and logistics for our sports travel and tours. It's a time that brings out a little bit of creativity and a lot of nerd in us!

But hey, if you are planning family tours to baseball stadiums or taking small group tours with some old friends, tell us where you want to go. We would love to hear from you. What stadiums do you want to see, cities would you like to visit, or attractions would you like to stop at in between destinations? What's a spot that you've been to that you think others should see? What's a feature that we should incorporate into our group travel tours? Now is a great time for us to build those items in.

In the mean time, we'll keep plugging away and hope to have our 2012 Tour Packages announced really soon!

Final Destination for Our Tour: Fenway Park

Posted by Big League Tours on Wed, Nov 23, 2011 @ 02:45 PM
July 1, 2011 - Saturday morning the 18th, we loaded up the motorcoach and made our way to Boston. For some of the folks on our tour, this will have been the 6th game in 8 days. For others, it would be their third game in four days. But one thing they had in common, all were very excited to get to Boston to see the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

We arrived in Boston early in the afternoon and checked into the hotel. Our guests then had a few hours to go explore the sites around bean town. Our hotel was located near the start of the Freedom Trail so many folks started there and explored as much as they could in the time that we had.

My wife and I met some friends at Tasty Burger, a great little burger joint within view of Fenway Park. The food was fantastic. We had classic double View from our seats at Fenwaycheeseburgers and split a 50/50 (half fries, half onion rings). This will be a permanent stop on all the baseball tours I host in Boston.

Here's a photo from our seats. I kept waiting for a foul ball to roll up the screen above us, hit the face of the upper deck, and then fall into my outreached hand, but no such luck. I think only one or two foul balls were hit up there all night. Maybe it was the style of the pitchers that night? Or, could have just been the way the game was going. Here's the link to the box score on MLB.com.

This is still my favorite ballpark in all of the Majors. It's size, character, atmosphere inside and outside the park, history, and fans all make it a great place to visit on our MLB road trips.

Touring Around Philadelphia

Posted by Big League Tours on Wed, Nov 23, 2011 @ 11:15 AM
The infamous Liberty Bell
June 12, 2011 - Saturday morning provided some time to explore the sites in Philadelphia. Everyone had the opportunity to choose what they wanted to do. Funny thing is, when we got together to go to the ballgame, we found out we all went down to see the Liberty Bell, which was within walking distance of our hotel

The city has created a park incorporates the foundation of the President's house and lots of historical facts about our country's formative years.

It was great standing on the site of sFoundation of first President's houseo much history, especially such pivotal history for our country. (I have a feeling that will be a theme of some free day stops on this tour!)

One thing to note, whenever our schedules' allow, we build in free time on our baseball road trips. We believe that if you are going to visit a city one time, or if it's the first time that you are taking your kids, you should have the freedom to explore the things that you want to see, not be forced to see things with everyone on the group tours...

Opening Day Is Finally Here!!

Posted by Big League Tours on Tue, Nov 22, 2011 @ 10:15 PM

I know that ESPN bills last night's game as opening day but the purest in me just can't except that "made for TV" hype. Admittedly, I watched the game last night but still believe that the season doesn't officially open until today. Opening Day, after all, should be comprised of day games, shouldn't it? Parades, presentations, fanfare, too. If it was upGroup in Orioles dugout on a private stadium tour to me, Opening Day would be a national holiday.

Today's the day that every team is tied for first and believes that they have a chance to stay in the hunt this year. Today's the day that we realize that we will have professional baseball played everyday until the first of November. Today's the day that summer begins in my book.

So enjoy the day today. Catch your team's opener. And get ready for another summer of baseball and taking baseball travel tours to see your team all summer long!

Ballpark Food

Posted by Big League Tours on Tue, Nov 22, 2011 @ 09:45 PM
February 28 2010-You know, the only food that I can recall from going to the ballpark as a kid are hot dogs or sausages, peanuts, and Cracker Jack. I realize that part of the reason that my recollection could be so limited is that kids often zero in on their favorites and rarely stray from them. I was no different so I get that.

But seeing that Target Field will offer "Walleye on a Stick" (see my post from this morning) has me thinking about the varied foods that have cropped up at ballparks on our MLB tours. From the garlic fries at AT&T Park in San Francisco to the "corn off the cob" at US Cellular Field in Chicago. They serve sushi in Cleveland at Progressive Field - didn't see that one coming. And have some signature sandwiches like the Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh.

Teams have also incorporated former players' shops in or around the stadiums. There are barbeque stands in Citizens Bank Park and Orioles Park that don the names of Greg "The Bull" Luzinski and Boog Powell, respectively. You can buy a Cuban sandwich on Yawkey Way just outside Fenway Park at El Tiante and sometimes get an autograph from Luis Tiant himself.

Soon we'll be heading out on our baseball travel tours hitting baseball stadiums across the big leagues. It will give us a chance to sample the newest food offerings from each of the ballparks. So we want to know...what is your favorite ballpark food whether inside or out of the stadium? What are the gems from each of the cities that you think other baseball fans need to check out? Share your insights with other fans as we all prepare to hit the road for sports travel.

What Makes Us Different?

Posted by Big League Tours on Tue, Nov 22, 2011 @ 08:30 PM
I'm often asked, "What makes your BLT traveler with Bill "Spaceman" Lee atop the Green Monster at Fenway Parkbaseball travel tours different from anything else that's out there?" That's a great question and one that we love to answer!

2010 marks the fifth season of escorted tours for our company. I started Big League Tours when I couldn’t find a company that offered package tours the way I wanted to see the various parks. Since we’re fans first, our goal is to offer you tours the way you want them. Here are some things that make us different from the other guys:
  • We get you in the action, arranging meet & greets with players, front office management, or broadcasters
  • We also make sure you have great lower-level seats
  • Our tour vacations take place on long weekends, making it an easy trip to arrange for the guys or even for family tours
  • We stay in great hotels in the heart of the cities, making sure your trip is a complete experience
  • We take pride in our flexibility, we plan plenty of activities that you can join or break off on your own
  • We always do our best to minimize travel time to allow you the maximum amount of time at our destination.
Check out some of the testimonials from our clients to see what they have to say about us and our tours. You can also visit our ballpark images, photos that our travelers have taken from parks all over the country.

We’re planning exciting things for this year and hope you'll join us and fans from all over North America as we experience baseball like never before. Let us know if you have any questions. And if you can, join us on a Big League Tour this coming year for a fantastic baseball experience.

Winter Meetings in Full Swing

Posted by Big League Tours on Tue, Nov 22, 2011 @ 05:30 PM
December 9, 2009 - The MLB Winter Meetings are in full swing this week in Indianapolis. So far we've seen some trades that have drawn some attention - namely the three-team trade that included Curtis Granderson going to the Yankees. There are still plenty of free agents that will be signed in the coming weeks, too.

It's a great time of optimism for all 30 teams and a time to set the stage for the 2010 season. What's in store for your team next year? Are you planning to take any MLB tours to catch your team? Maybe you are looking for gifts for baseball fans on your list? We would love to help!

Stay tuned to the MLB Hot Stove news during this off season and stay tuned to the news about our upcoming baseball travel tours.
